America's Oldest Clockmaker
Since 1813

The name Seth Thomas is symbolic of value and excellence of craft, as a result of the variety of sophisticated styles it has produced since 1813. As the longest established clock maker in the United States (nearly 200 years), Seth Thomas is recognized as one of the most respected brands of clocks in the world.

During its early years, Seth Thomas quickly gained an impeccable reputation for producing masterfully crafted grandfather clocks. Soon after, the company was also known for designing and producing some of the country's most renowned tower clocks, including the tower clock at Grand Central Station in New York.

Today, Seth Thomas's reputation continues to be well earned. Our blend of quality and impressive design has made us the industry's premiere clock maker in the 21st century also. Our posh collection of clocks ranges from classic strike and chimes to unique styles crafted in contemporary metals, colorful resins and aged finishes. In addition to decorative mantel, wall and table top clocks, Seth Thomas produces a wide variety of timepieces perfectly suited for gift giving for the office as well as the home. It is a name recognized and trusted by consumers of all age groups and backgrounds.

Incomparable workmanship. Unsurpassed quality. A quest for perfection. It's what Howard C. Miller insisted on when he founded the company back in 1926, at the age of 21.

Even then, Howard Miller understood the need to create products that would be steeped in quality and value. He expected nothing less than the best. And it was only under those strict conditions that he allowed his name to grace every clock manufactured at our sprawling facility in Zeeland, Michigan.

Howard Miller was schooled in the fine art of clockmaking by his father, Herman, in the Black Forest region of Germany. Howard developed into a visionary whose keen sense of innovation spawned a tradition of excellence that has been uncompromised through three generations.

While the early years focused on the manufacture of chiming wall and mantel clocks, Howard Miller also produced trend-setting avant garde clocks that stand today in collectors' galleries. During World War II, Howard Miller joined forces with the Ford Motor Co. to produce anti-aircraft covers. In the 1960s, the company turned its attention to grandfather clocks, eventually earning the company the title of "World's Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer."

In 1989, Howard Miller began creating collectors cabinets with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship inherent in their clockmaking. Fashioned from glass and hardwoods, the cabinets are ideal for displaying heirlooms, plates, glassware and other collectibles.

As part of the company's continuing effort to bring customers only the best in handcrafted products, Howard Miller recently acquired three companies: The Hekman Furniture Company produces a strong cadre of carefully sculpted hardwood pieces that range from 18th and 19th Century reproductions, to contemporary products featuring fine metals and exotic woods. The Woodmark Company makes fine upholstered pieces. And the exquisite movement in many clocks we offer is made by Old World craftsmen employed by the Kieninger Company of Germany.

While Howard Miller products might once have been primarily considered as gifts for weddings, anniversaries and retirements, the company's expanded line of offerings is enticing more and more buyers who simply desire quality timepieces and furniture in their homes and businesses -- no occasion required.

Howard Miller offers hundreds of items to complement any decor ranging from portable alarm clocks to desk sets to wall and mantel clocks to collectors cabinets to limited edition grandfather clocks. And in price ranges that may surprise you - from $5 to $15,000.

No matter the price of the purchase, you have the same assurance that Howard C. Miller provided when he began offering clocks more than 70 years ago: That quality be reflected both in the products we create, and in the people whose artistic talents we rely on to manufacture them.

The legacy left by Howard C. Miller isn't an easy one to emulate. But it's the only way we know of doing business. Incomparable workmanship. Unsurpassed quality. A quest for perfection.

AN AMERICAN CLOCK COMPANY

Timeworks began with three brothers and an idea - to create a line of historically authentic clocks, which would be both affordable and functional.

Timeworks clocks are made individually, by hand - most of them at our factory in Berkeley, California. We use the finest components available - solid, hand-antiqued brass for cases and pendulums, die-cut steel hands with time-worn patinas and beautifully finished frames. Our quartz clock movements are the finest obtainable to ensure reliability and trouble-free service.

2005 marked our 10th year in business. In this span of time our offering has grown from 5 products to more than 100, with each season's collection more interesting, innovative and original than the ones before.

Bradford takes the craftsmanship of fine wood clocks seriously. That's why the Made in the USA moniker is proudly displayed. All Bradford wooden clock cabinets are hand made, assembled in the USA, and use the best clock movements and components available. This quality is backed up by a limited lifetime warranty and is evident in the exquisite that goes into every Bradford timepiece.

Known for its harsh winters, its many local artisans, and an abundance of hard woods unique to the area, Triberg in the Black Forest is the prime location for the production of cuckoo clocks. Even today, most of the world's supply of cuckoo clocks still comes from Germany, mostly from the Black Forest area. There are imitators out there but beware - if it's not from Germany or Austria it may not be a high quality, hand-carved cuckoo clock.

Today there are over 100 small companies in the area that are licensed to manufacture cuckoo clocks. The business has evolved from a winter months' activity to a full time, year round endeavor. In fact, most of the original farms of the area have stopped producing grains and vegetables because the farmers are too busy harvesting the prized Linden wood for the manufacturing of cuckoo clocks. Only a few of these companies are large enough to sell their products overseas, and so only a few names, such as Dold, Schneider, Herr, Jaeger, Hermle and Schwab have achieved international fame as quality cuckoo clock craftsmen. Each of these companies, named after the artist who originally founded them, is known around the world as quality producers of cuckoo clocks.

Now Anton Schneider & Sons, the company founded in 1848 by Anton Schneider is in its sixth generation of Schneiders. The company employs only the most skilled craftsmen working, many of whom have been in with their company for several generations, and some of whom have worked there as long as forty years. The warehouse in Schonach, Germany is not only known for the quality of timekeeping in their cuckoo clocks, but also for the artistic nature of the individual pieces. Schneider cuckoo clocks are prized for their music and dancing figures as well as for larger, more intricate moving scenes. Their production has surpassed more than 300 different mechanical models to date, all of which carry their imprint on the clock dial.

Probably the most famous seller of cuckoo clocks is the German company River City Cuckoo Clocks. While American distributors sometimes use the name River City, the original company is located in the Black Forest of Germany and serves as a one-stop wholesaler for many different brands of cuckoo clocks, of only the highest quality produced in the area.

Cuckoo Clocks Info provides detailed information on Black Forest, antique, and quartz cuckoo clocks, as well as parts, repair, movement, kits, manufacturer reviews, and advice on where to purchase discount clocks. Cuckoo Clocks Info is the sister site of Grandfather Clocks Web.
